Red Room Rising Star

I had a nice surprise when I surfed over to the Red Room Website this morning. My mug stared back at me from the front page. I'm highlighted as the "Red Room Rising Star."

Red Room is a writers showcase site and a place writers and readers mingle. It's a fun place if you like reading or writing. Click here to visit my Red Room page. To go to the main page (maybe I'm still there!), click the Red Room logo.

SWW Parris Award and me

Yesterday at the 2009 SouthWest Writer's Awards Banquet, I received "the highest honor bestowed upon a volunteer," The Parris Award. It's given in recognition of a member who has worked hard for the organization, helped other writers, and has a body of published work. It was an honor indeed to receive this award. I'm still smiling.

That's Rob Spiegel, SWW President, me, and Larry Greenly, SWW Vice President.

My Dark Knowledge Interview

I had a great experience during the editing process of my upcoming paranormal thriller. I lucked out by getting a talented and fun editor from South Africa, Nerine Dorman, and we teamed up nicely to put a high gloss shine on Dark Knowledge in preparation for its October 19th release.

Neither of us were ready to part ways, so Nerine asked me 6 probing questions about Dark Knowledge, writing, and me. The interview is now up at the Paranormal Writers Blog. This is a great place for paranormal writers to hang out, by the way.

If you're interested, head on over, see if you know me as well as you think you do, and leave me a how-do in the comment trail. I'll how-do you back. CLICK HERE or on the image above to read my interview.

Looking ahead

My paranormal thriller, Dark Knowledge, has been through the edits, the line edits, and today I finished the galley proof edit and sent my baby back to the publisher. Lyrical Press is turning it into a novel now. And when it comes out October 19th, that novel will be wrapped nicely in this.

When good and evil intertwine,
taking one means accepting the other

I've had a long run of busy lately, but once I recover (and for a workaholic like me, that usually takes about half a day), and catch up on some paperwork (day and a half), there's some marketing in my future.

Marketing Struck has eaten more time each day than I figured, but I'm hoping it won't be long until I can finally return to work on my next novel.

I've been looking forward to working on this one. I require open space on my calendar to write first draft, writing prima donna that I am, but while I've been unable to write, my strange little brain has continued pondering the new novel. Scenes lurk in my mind, just waiting for me to reach the right point in the novel to write them. I love that. It happens every time I write first draft.

So if I get quiet unexpectedly, you'll know what I'm up to. And I'll be smiling.

Small presses, the talk

I'm speaking at SouthWest Writers (SWW) Saturday on Small Presses. I'll discuss the different types of small presses, how to find appropriate ones for your book, what to look for, what to avoid, and what to expect.

SWW is a great organization, and I'm proud to be serving on the board my fourth year, my third as an officer there. If you're local-ish, interested in small presses, or just want to watch me stammer around and then buy a signed copy of Struck, I hope you'll drop by.

This is the regular Saturday program. Here are the details:
Saturday, September 5th, 10 AM to Noon
New Life Presbyterian Church
5540 Eubank Blvd. NE
Albuquerque, NM
Click here to visit the SWW website

Hope to see you Saturday.
